After a rough blowout loss in the series opener and a 1-0 defeat on Wednesday night, it was imperative for the Arizona Diamondbacks to salvage at least one game against the Texas Rangers. Daniel Hudson took the mound this evening in Arlington and was phenomenal, working seven innings of three-run ball.

Hudson's performance and two strong relief innings from Bryan Shaw held the Rangers down as the D-backs went on to win 11-3 in blowout fashion.

Texas took an early 1-0 lead in the first, but a two-run homer from Jason Kubel gave Arizona a 2-1 lead in the second. Lyle Overbay's two-run double in the third inning pushed the lead to 4-1. Overbay doubled again in the six to bring another run across the plate, and then scored himself on a single from Aaron Hill for a 6-1 lead.

Gerardo Parra's three-run homer capped off a five-run sixth for the D-backs, pushing the score to 9-1.

Daniel Murphy of the Rangers cut the lead to 9-3 with a two-run shot in the seventh, but Miguel Montero answered in the top of the ninth with a two-run homer of his own.

The Diamondbacks may still have lost the series, but they were facing a very tough team and grabbed the momentum while winning the finale. They'll now head west to take on Albert Pujols, Mike Trout and the Angels beginning Friday night.

In their recent five-game winning streak, the Arizona Diamondbacks suddenly were offensive juggernauts. In a four-game period, they put up 33 runs. They were scoring runs almost at will, and were doing it frequently with two outs.

Now, after two games on the road against the Texas Rangers, we are beginning to see the nature of the offense. It is hot and cold -- feast or famine.

Since the start of June, the D-backs are 7-4. Their offense has been great in the wins and terrible in the losses.

In their wins, the offense has amassed 47 runs -- almost seven runs per game. Even a very bad pitching staff can win with an offense like that.

The losses? It's painful. In four losses, Arizona has scored two runs.

The latest offensive fiasco wasted another brilliant outing by Wade Miley, who allowed a single run in almost eight innings.

The starting pitching has been inconsistent, but has evened out its play in the past couple of weeks. So has the bullpen. The defense has been great. The offense, when clicking, is fantastically fun to watch. However, when it is not running on all cylinders, it looks like it isn't running at all.

It's great when the team can pound out seven or eight runs, but when the other games are zero and one runs, it does you no good. It is far better to have an offense that consistently gets you three to four runs a night than to have the Jekyll and Hyde approach.

Consistency -- coaches preach about it all the time. It turns out that it is exactly what baseball teams need if they are going to be contenders.

The Arizona Diamondbacks fell for the second-straight night to the Texas Rangers. This time, they got a great outing from their starter but were still unable to generate any offense. Lefty Wade Miley was spectacular but he was done in late by a bad call and poor defense from Ryan Roberts.

The Rangers finally broke through on Miley in the bottom of the eighth through no fault of his own. He walked Mike Napoli, but the replay showed the 3-2 slider was in the zone. Napoli advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and then Miley stuck out the dangerous Nelson Cruz with three pitches. But Craig Gentry hit a rocket to third base that Roberts couldn't handle.

Instead of getting himself in front of the ball so he could at least knock it down and prevent the run, Roberts played it off the hop to the side of his body. The ball bounced off his glove and into left field allowing Napoli to score from second.

And with that unfortunate turn of events, Miley's fantastic game came to an end with 7.2 innings, 93 pitches, three hits, one "walk", and the one run allowed. Wade had a career-high eight strikeouts thanks to a devastating slider that completely fooled the Rangers hitters.

On the other side of the coin, the D-backs offense was held down for the second-straight game. They managed six hits but couldn't put together any kind of sustain rally to drive one or two home.

Rangers LHP Matt Harrison was finally lifted in the eighth inning when Willie Bloomquist doubled down the right field line. In came highly competent reliever, Mike Adams, who proceeded to get the next two outs to end the threat. Harrison's final line was 7.1 innings pitched with six hits and no runs allowed. He struck out three and walked two.

The D-backs and Rangers play the final game of the series on Thursday night with Arizona looking to avoid the sweep.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are on the road in interleague play. What does that mean? It means no pitchers hitting. The designated hitter gets to play. For the D-backs that meant that they could play all four of their starting caliber outfielders. Justin Upton, Chris Young, Gerardo Parra and Jason Kubel all essentially deserve to start. Parra is the defensive whiz, who has been hitting over .300 when at the top of the batting order. Kubel has been the most productive bat this year.

Against the Rangers in the first game of the series, it did not go so well for the four, but that in part was because Colby Lewis was superb to everyone. But the outfielders were a combined 0-14.

Now, The Diamondbacks like being in the National League. Fans have been watching National League baseball ever since the days of the Phoenix Firebirds. There are scores of people here that think that the DH is not the way to play baseball.

The DH adds an element of actual offense, while having the pitcher hit adds strategy.

But normally, fans here would prefer NL ball.

With the lineup with all four guys, they are happy as clams.

Of course, better results would have been better, but the Parra/Kubel debates can be set aside, at least for now.

An updated look at voting for the 2012 All-Star Game.

Voting is underway for the Mid-Summer Classic, but do not expect to see any Arizona Diamondbacks chosen by the fans. In the latest update for the National League there were no D-backs even close to earning the nominee to become starters. The club will likely only have the one required representative chosen by the NL manager, Tony La Russa.

The latest voting numbers show Joey Votto has an insurmountable lead at first base. Dan Uggla of the Braves leads the vote at second base by 500,000 votes. We'll have a great race for the starter at third base; David Wright, Pablo Sandoval, David Freese and Chipper Jones all have upwards of a million votes.

Troy Tulowitzki and Rafael Furcal will battle for the starting shortstop job. Buster Posey of the Giants and Yadier Molina of the Cardinals lead in catcher voting, and Posey had a current lead of about 150,000 votes.

Five outfielders currently have more than a million votes: Matt Kemp, Carlos Beltran, Ryan Braun, Melky Cabrera and Andre Ethier. Kemp leads all players with 2.5 million votes, which is pretty damn impressive given it's only mid-June.

There's a chance a Diamondbacks player or two sneaks into the voting somewhere, but it doesn't seem likely.

The Arizona Diamondbacks came into Arlington, Texas having won five straight games. With Ian Kennedy coming off of two straight very good starts, it appeared that they might be able to continue their success. However, Texas rangers starter Colby Lewis had a perfect game threw five innings and only allowed a solo homer to Miguel Montero and three other hits. Texas got five runs in the sixth inning and Lewis threw a complete game to beat Arizona 9-1 in the first game of their three-game interleague series.

Kennedy gave up a run in the bottom of the first inning when his wild pitch scored Ian Kinsler, who had doubled to lead off the inning.

Arizona was stymied as they were set down 16 times in a row before Aaron Hill was the first baserunner with a hit with one out in the sixth. He was left stranded and then Texas busted the game open in the bottom of the inning.

Kennedy retired the first two hitters, but then allowed six straight hits and five runs, including a two-run home run to David Murphy. That made the score 6-0.

Texas added two more runs in the seventh with two outs and a single run in the eighth.

Miguel Montero homered in the top of the eighth for the only Arizona run.

Paul Goldschmidt was hitless in three at-bats, so his hitting streak came to an end.

Lewis gave up only four hits in a complete game win. He struck out seven and walked one. With the win, he evened his record at 5-5 on the season.

Kennedy allowed six runs and 10 hits in five and two-thirds innings, walking one and striking out four. He took the loss, falling to 5-6.

The two teams battle again Wednesday night.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are currently on a five game winning streak, their longest of the 2012 season, and looking to continue that roll against the AL West in interleague play this week. Their first stop is in Arlington, Texas to take on the red hot Rangers and their superstar, Josh Hamilton.

The Rangers are easily the most explosive offensive team in Major League Baseball right now. They are first in runs, batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Their roster is solid from head to toe, featuring great pitching as well.

Luckily for the D-backs, they are not only playing well right now, but they have actually fared better on the road than they have in the friendly confines of Chase Field this season. Currently, they are 15-14 on the road and 15-16 at home. What is also fortunate for the Diamondbacks is that they will be sending their three best pitchers to the mound against Nolan Ryan's boys.

Here are the presumed pitching lineups for this three game series series:

Tuesday: Ian Kennedy (5-5, 3.93) vs. Colby Lewis (4-5, 3.38)

Wednesday: Wade Miley (7-2, 2.53) vs. Matt Harrison (8-3, 3.87)

Thursday: Daniel Hudson (2-1, 6.06) vs. Scott Feldman (6.39)

The Diamondbacks' offense has been stellar as of late as well. During their win streak, they have seen 37 runners cross the plate. Home runs have been abundant and men on base have been far from scarce. Arizona hopes to see this level of play continue against Texas.

All of the games are set to begin at 5:05 MST, barring some sort of unforeseen setback.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have put together a five game win streak to improve to 30-30, but remain stuck in the middle of the NL West.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have managed to put together a five game win streak, raising their overall record to 30-30. That puts them within striking distance of the San Francisco Giants, but still 8.5 games behind the division leading Los Angeles Dodgers. They don't play either of those teams until July or later, so if they want to move up in the standings they'll have to continue winning and get a little help from the rest of the league.
