The Sun Devil baseball program will have to find a new baseball home for next season, as its deal with the Chicago Cubs has fallen through.

The Arizona State baseball team announced today that they have ended negotiations with the Chicago Cubs on a combined ASU/Chicago baseball facility. It was reported a few months back, that ASU baseball and the Cubs would share a new baseball stadium in Mesa located at the southeast corner of the 101 and 202 freeways.

However, according to a release sent out this morning, ASU and the Cubs have ended negotiations and Arizona State is moving forward with other options for their baseball program.

"While ASU appreciates the effort of Mesa Mayor Scott Smith and his staff, it has become increasingly clear, following a lengthy negotiating process that we cannot partner with the Chicago Cubs," ASU athletics said in a statement.

The stadium was set to hold 15,000 fans and include a video board, improved concessions and restrooms and luxury suites.

The Sun Devils were set to share the playing field with the Cubs during spring training, as well as seven full-size practice fields. The Sun Devils were going to have their own clubhouse.

The deadline has come and gone for amateur baseball players to sign their professional contracts, meaning Arizona State head baseball coach Tim Esmay will now know what his 2013 Sun Devil baseball team will look like.

The deadline for professional contracts was moved up a month this year as part of the new MLB collective bargaining agreement. Players had until July 15th to sign their professional contracts, if high school players or drafted college players did not sign by the deadline, they would enroll in their respective colleges.

Fourteen signees will join the Arizona State baseball team for the 2012-2013 school year and the 2013 baseball season. Six of the 14 signees were taken in the MLB draft and four players from Arizona will join the Sun Devils in 2013. Click the jump find out more about the future Sun Devils.

As usual, Arizona State baseball did not stray far from home when finding talent. Even though the Sun Devils lost out on local players like Mitch Nay, Tony Blanford and Wayne Ethington, all who signed professional contracts, ASU still landed four players from the Grand Canyon state.

Chris Beall, Nick Diamond, David Graybill and Eric Melboasted all the four Arizona prep stars who will be wearing maroon and gold next season.

Graybill is set to be a third generation Sun Devil, as his grandfather and father both played baseball for ASU. His grandfather, David Graybill Sr., is one of only seven three-sport letterman in school history after playing football, basketball and baseball for ASU in the 1950's.

Graybill and Beall come to ASU from Brophy College Prep, continuing the strong pipeline between the high school and ASU. Former Broncos Matt Newman, Raul Torres and Riccio Torres have all recently stared for the Sun Devils, and current Sun Devil Kasey Coffman attended Brophy College Prep.

Left-handed pitcher Ryan Kellogg was taken by the Blue Jays in the 12th round, however the Canadian turned down Toronto and elected to attend Arizona State. Kellogg is expected to be a major factor in the Sun Devils pitching rotation next season.

Jake Barrett has always been a baseball star in Arizona. From his time at Mesa Desert Ridge High School, where he led Jaguars to the 2009 5A Division II State Baseball title, to his three seasons at Arizona State University where he finished the 2012 season with a 1.62 ERA. Barrett will have a chance to continue this career in Arizona, as he was selected in the third round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

As a high school senior, Barrett was named the 2009 Arizona State Player of the Year and was named first team All-State in both 2008 and 2009. Barrett went 9-3 with 99 strikeouts on the mound in 2009, while also hitting 19 home runs and driving in 65 runs.

Barrett was drafted in the third round of the 2009 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. Many were surprised that the hard throwing right-hander did not sign with Toronto and instead chose to attend Arizona State University.

As a freshman for the Sun Devils, Barrett was mostly used in the 8th inning as a setup man for closer Jordan Swagerty. Barrett mande 28 relief appearances, compiling a 2-0 record with an ERA of 3.41.

As a sohomore in 2011, Barrett was put into the weekend rotation by head coach Tim Esmay. Barrett started 14 games, going 7-4 with an ERA of 4.14. Barrett struck out 72 batters in 76 innigs pitched.

This past season, Barrett posted a career best 1.62 ERA with 11 saves, in the closer role for the 2012 Sun Devils.

Barrett is a fast track college arm that could be with the major league club shortly. He has a fastball that reaches the mid-90's and has nasty off-speed pitches. Valley baseball fans could be seeing Jake Barrett in the Diamondback bullpen very soon.

After falling further than was expected, Arizona State standout shortstop Deven Marrero finally was selected in the first round of Monday night's MLB Draft. He was taken by the Boston Red Sox with the 24th pick overall.

The Arizona State baseball program has sent 100 players to the major leagues. Players like Mike Leake, Ike Davis, Dustin Pedroia and Jason Kipnis are all former Sun Devils thriving in Major League Baseball, and all of their major league journeys began with the MLB Amateur Draft. The MLB Draft takes place over three days, beginning with the first round tonight starting tonight at 4 PM. Click the jump to where this year's crop of Sun Devils could go.

ASU shortstop Deven Marrero has a chance to be the highest Sun Devil taken since Mike Leake went No. 8 in 2009. Mock drafts have Marrero going has high as No. 8 to the Pittsburgh Pirates. In their final mock draft, Baseball America has Marrero going No. 14 to the Cincinnati Reds. Marrero will not fall out of the first round and will most likely be a chosen in the middle of the first round.

The next Sun Devil most likely to be taken is junior right-hander Jake Barrett. Barrett was a third round pick in 2009 coming out of Mesa Desert Ridge High School. Barrett has a powerful arm that can reach the high 90's, and has nasty off-speed stuff. Although Barrett was a starter for one season, he projects as a relief pitcher in the major leagues.

Even though there is a chance Barrett sneaks into the end of the first round, Barrett will most likely be taken in the supplemental first round (picks 32-60). The supplemental rounds are extra picks for teams that lost players in free agency.

Right-hander Brady Rodgers has a chance to go with Barrett in the supplemental first round. Barrett piched 115 innings for the Sun Devils this season, winning 10 games and posting an ERA of 2.27. Rodgers pitches a lot like Mike Leake and definitely has a chance to make it into a major league rotation. Rodgers is most likely to be chosen in rounds 2-4.

Other Sun Devils that have a chance to be taken before round 10 are: 2B Joey DeMichele, 1B Abe Ruiz, CF Andrew Aplin and RHP Matthew Dunbar.
