Our coverage of the Arizona boys high school state championship concludes with the 5A-I and 5A-II title games. SB Nation will continue its high school basketball March Madness bonanza for the weeks ahead as teams from around the country compete for their state championships.

5A Division II Title Game

The first game on the schedule today featured Fairfax High School winning their first state title in their school's short four year history with a double overtime victory over Chaparral by the score of 65-60.

Chaparral had a chance to win in regulation, but couldn't convert its free-throws and a short three-point attempt from Zeke Chapman - son of former NBA player Rex Chapman - allowed Fairfax to do just enough to squeak its way to the first championship in school history on Saturday afternoon at Jobing.com Arena.

Fairfax (23-7), playing its first season with seniors, was led by senior Pierre Newton as the 6-foot-5 forward scored 26 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished eight assists while hitting numerous free-throws to keep Fairfax ahead down the stretch.

Chaparral is located in Scottsdale while Fairfax is located right outside of Phoenix in Laveen, Ariz.

5A Division I Title Game

Mountain View defense smoothers Brophy en route to 50-29 win and the 5A-I Arizona State Title. Brophy was coming off a semi-final win over Mesa where they scored 96 points, but the boys from the central Phoenix private school weren't able to solve Mountain View's defensive intensity at Jobbing.com arena on Friday.

"It was just old school, going hard all the time," senior forward Sam Kamp told the Arizona Republic after the game.

According the Republic, Mountain View shot better than 60 percent while holding Brophy to just 20 percent shooting from the field.

Most important to Mountain View's victory was probably big man Cam Boone as he scored a team-high 12 points to go along with his 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. The only other player in double figures for Mountain View was point guard Mark Mazzucco who registered 11 points and hree steals in the defensive battle.

Brophy Prep (21-9) was attempting to win its first state championship in basketball after last making it to the championship game in 2001, but their poor shooting night prevented that from happening. Forward James Harper gave it a solid effort, however, as he scored eight of the team's 13 first half points and finished with 11 total.

Our administrators were so supportive. Lastly, I want to thank God for keeping me here and winning a state championship."

Nogales received a strong performance from their junior guard Joseph Moreal who finished with 20 points. Moreal scored 13 of those points in the fourth quarter to lead his school to victory.

Saguaro, a Scottsdale school, entered the game with a 15-game winning streak after an 8-8 start, and was led by senior guard Jack Connors with 18 points.

3A Title Game

Holbrook defeated Fountain Hills 49-43 to win their first state championship since 1971. The rural school from Northern Arizona was down 15 with seven minutes left in the game before their full-court pressure helped fuel a 24-3 run over the much taller boys from the wealthy Phoenix suburb.

Holbrook's 6-foot-1 guard Kory Koerperich was the hero of the game as he recorded a team-high 12 points, including six from the free throw line in the final seconds to secure the win.

"No one expected us to do this," Koerperich told the Arizona Republic after the game."I knew we were going to come back."

The state championships for boys high school basketball kicked off this weekend in Arizona with the 1A and 2A finals taking place at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott, Ariz. SB Nation will be covering high school March Madness all across the country in the coming weeks.

The 1A Finals featured two private prep schools with the Orme School located in a remote location about an hour north of Phoenix facing off against Gilbert Christian High School from the Valley's East Side. Orme, an elite boarding school attracting students from all over the world, with a roughly $40,000 annual tuition, beat the Gilbert school (whose tuition is a modest $8,400 per year) by the score of 68-56.

Orme was led by by Metehan Akcam, a guard from Turkey, who scored 25 points along with four 3-pointers. Akcam is part of a starting lineup that doesn't include any American players which has raised some concerns in prep sports circles.

"I think this is probably like a one-shot deal," Orme coach Todd Roe told the Arizona Republic. "I said before, ‘The stars kind of lined up for us.' We've always had a big international population at the school. We just happened to get kids this year that were experienced basketball players."

The Arizona 2A championship was won by another private prep school, Westwind Prep from Phoenix, who defeated Thatcher High School from Safford, Ariz., by the score of 82-63.

Westwind forward Demarquise Johnson, a 6-6 junior, led all scorers with 26 points. Westwind avenged its loss in last year's championship game when it was defeated by Phoenix Scottsdale Christian.

"My goal was just to win at the end, and that is what we did," Johnson told the Arizona Republic after the game. "Last year we were in the locker room, and everyone was mad and upset. This feels great."

Westwind coach Gary Trousdale told SB Nation's Adam Zagoria last week that Johnson could be compared to a young Paul Pierce. Johnson has already drawn interest from several Division 1 universities including Minnesota, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State, San Diego State, New Mexico, Oregon State, Providence and Louisville.
