Well at least USA Today was aware that the Cardinals won this week. They broke the pattern of stagnation we have seen, actually moving the Red Birds up six spots on their rankings.

Cardinals' ranking: #20

Lest week's ranking: #26

It seems that USA Today believes that Max Hall will get his chance soon enough.

Derek Anderson era won't last long if he doesn't improve.

On the bright side, this is the first list to rank the Cardinals above the Seahawks. How 'bout them apples Seattle?

Screw moving up one or two spots on the power rankings after Sunday's win against the Raiders. NBCSports.com thinks its better to keep the Cardinals right where they are.

Cardinals' ranking: #25

Last week's ranking: #25

NBCSports.com apparently agrees with CBSSports.com:

This team easily could be 0-3 -- and would be if they'd played someone other than the Raiders and the Rams in the early going.

I understand the Cardinals may not be the most talented squad in the league, but ranking them the eighth worst team in the league? Really?

I'm starting to notice a trend here. Once again our lovable Cardinals only made a minuscule climb up the ladder.

Cardinals' ranking: #20

Last week's ranking: #21

CBSSports.com has a pretty spot-on analysis of the season so far:

They could easily be 0-3, but at 2-1 they are tied for the division lead. Even so, they haven't played that well yet. The defensive problems are a bit of a surprise.

That last sentiment is something I'm sure we're all worried about. With so much talent on the defensive side of the ball, the Cardinals have the potential to perform much better than they have shown.

Count FOXSports.com as another media outlet that was thoroughly unimpressed by the Cardinals victory on Sunday.

Cardinals' ranking: #19

Last weeks' ranking: #20

FOXSports had a few words regarding the Red Birds as well, though they certainly were not the most complimentary remarks you'll ever here.

Talk about winning ugly. This is one of the worst 2-1 teams in the league. It's nearly a Festivus miracle that they have a winning record at this point based on the performance of QB Derek Anderson so far.

Exaggeration much?

It seems that no one was that impressed with last week's miracle win against Oakland. ESPN's latest power rankings have the Cardinals moving up only two spots, to #22.

The voters were basically in agreement, with all four ranking the Red Birds in the low twenties:

John Clayton: 25

Paul Kuharsky: 21

James Walker: 20

The Worldwide Leader in Sports doesn't seem to think the Cardinals' future prospects are very bright either.

The Cardinals have now (barely) beaten the St Louis Rams, got blown out by a very good Atlanta Falcons team and <s>lost to</s> beat the Oakland Raiders. Where does that 2-1 start to the season get the defending NFC West champion Arizona Cardinals?

22nd place, according to this week's SB Nation NFL Power Rankings.

I suppose that's good news considering how poorly Derek Anderson has played and missing Beanie Wells for the first two weeks of the season with a sore knee / torn ligament. Throw in Early Doucet's sports hernia and Larry Fitzgerald's bum knee and really, you can't complain with the record.

What the Power Rankings obvious understand and account for is the overall quality of play both from the Cardinals (offense and defense) compared to some other teams ranked higher despite being 1-2.

The Cowboys (1-2), Chargers (1-2) and Vikings (1-2) all understandably fall in to that category although ranking the Giants (1-2) at 20 seems like a bit of East Coast bias.

The good news is that NFC West foes 49ers (24) and Rams (28) are ranked lower and the Seahawks (19) are poised to go into a tail spin at any point.

This division is still right there for the Cardinals to grab but they are going to need to pick up the level of their play -- especially mental -- and realize that they don't have Kurt Warner around anymore to cover for their silly mistakes.
