With the Seattle Storm long out of reach for first place in the Western Conference, the Phoenix Mercury will instead look to create a little comfort at the second slot.

With the San Antonio Silver Stars in third place and trailing Phoenix by two games, a victory tonight will put some distance between the two clubs in the race for the playoffs.

The Mercury have been searing hot lately, winning five of their last six games. Over those games, star guard Diana Taurasi has averaged 29.8 points and garnered consecutive Western Conference player of the week awards, leading the team on a tear that has strengthened their postseason bid.

Taurasi will be facing off against Becky Hammon, the Silver Stars guard averaging 14.0 points and a team-high 5.1 assists. In their last meeting, Hammon had 21 points and 10 assists, while Taurasi notched 39 points, seven assists and seven rebounds in the 108-105 Mercury loss.
