Suns Jared Dudley Thinks There's Now a 70% Chance Steve Nash Leaves

New, 1 comment

Suns forward Jared Dudley weighed in on the Steve Nash free-agency rumors on Tuesday, noting that the odds of seeing Nash in the desert next season has dipped below 50%; now somewhere around 70% that he'll leave.

Dudley told Arizona Sports 620's Doug and Wolf,

"After the season I thought it was 50/50 for him potentially coming back, I think the percentage has gone down a little bit." Dudley said it would be unwise to count the Suns out, because he still feels Nash would like to keep playing for the Suns. But, he notes, the team has been working to woo other free agents - none of whom have been Nash - so it may be a sign that both parties are ready to move on.

"He's not a dummy, he's going to be smart and do his due diligence."

Dudley's perspective seems right to me - Nash and the Suns both have to keep their own best interests in mind, and at the end of the day it's a business. The Suns will be loath to give an aging star like Nash too much money, and Nash would do well to make the most of what could be his final contract.
