2012 NBA Mock Draft: Phoenix Suns Select Syracuse Guard Dion Waiters

The Phoenix Suns have quite a few areas on their roster to address in the coming months, but it appears the team will go with a guard at the 2012 NBA Draft. While some mock drafts have Duke guard Austin Rivers heading to Phoenix with the 13th overall pick, this latest mock draft from Jeff Goodman of CBS Sports has Syracuse's Dion Waiters being taken by the Suns.

Dion Waiters, SG, Syracuse: Agent Rob Pelinka pulled Waiters from the Chicago combine -- which means his client likely has a promise from someone in the lottery. The word is it may be the Suns, who could use a tough, scoring guard like Waiters.

Waiters is a bit undersized at 6'4 and 215lbs and does not really have a true position on the court, but he has a lot of potential and can score in a variety of ways. He is also a winner, playing two very successful seasons with Syracuse in college.

One drawback of Waiters' game is that he is not a point guard, which could be a concern for the Suns should Steve Nash leave. At the same time though, Phoenix could potentially have a dynamic backcourt if Nash returns and they add a player as talented as Waiters is.
