As scary as the proposition is, the post-Steve Nash era is likely to begin soon for the Phoenix Suns via the NBA Draft. ESPN's David Thorpe gave a glimpse into some of the needs of the Suns and which players might fit their future plans.
Now, of course, there is the issue of what style of play a non-Nash Suns team would play. Determining which direction they want to go in that regard will go a long way in deciding which player to choose with the no. 13 overall pick.
First and foremost, their fpick needs to be a guard of some kind. The center position is locked down with Marcin Gortat and Robin Lopez, and Markieff Morris showed enough promise at the four-spot that the Suns can look to the perimeter for improvement.
They could grab a Nash replacement in Weber State's Damian Lillard or UNC's Kendall Marshall. Washington's Terrence Ross makes sense as a shooter who can play up and down if the Suns decide to keep that identity. Then there is Duke's Austin Rivers, who is a better ball-handler than his fellow combo guards and would at least be able to create his own shot sans Nash.
A lot of decisions to be made as the Suns prepare for the draft. What they do will have a huge impact on who they are as a team moving forward.
