The Phoenix Suns fell to the Chicago Bulls 97-118 tonight at the United Center in Chicago. It was the Suns fifth consecutive loss and they have started their five game road trip 0-2. Steve Nash led the Suns with 25 points and had nine assists , but it was not nearly enough has the Suns fell to the Chicago, who were without Derrick Rose.
The game started out even through the first five minutes of action. However, the Bulls began to pull away towards the end of the first quarter and never looked back, leading by 20 at halftime. Carlos Boozer led the Bulls with 31 points and six rebounds. C.J. Watson, who was filling in for the injured Rose, added 23 points, five assists and four rebounds.
Marcin Gortat and Robin Lopez both had exceptional games for Phoenix. Gortat had 14 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Lopez led the bench with 16 points and added six rebounds.
The most surprising stat of the night could very well be that even though the Bulls were without their point guard, they had 12 more assists than the Suns (31-19). Kyle Korver and Richard Hamilton each had six assits for Chicago. The Bulls also shot 53.4% from the field and scored 25 points above their season average.
The Suns committed 19 turnovers and forced the Bulls into only six. The defense that won games for the Suns early in the season has disappeared as the Suns last five opponents have all scored over 100 points.
The Suns continue their brutal road trip tomorrow night when they play former coach Mike D'antoni and the New York Knicks.
