The Phoenix Suns appeared to have made a substantial move earlier in the week, but according to multiple reports on Saturday morning, the deal that would have sent Mickael Pietrus to the Toronto Raptors is off because of a swollen knee. Paul Coro of AZ Central has the latest update:
McCandless (agent for Pietrus) said the trade has been "postponed" and that Pietrus did not fail his Friday physical exam. He said the Raptors medical staff determined that Pietrus needed two to four more weeks to be cleared for play. Toronto will likely move another direction to fill the roster slot.
Toronto's doctors flagged something they saw in Pietrus' MRI exam on his right knee, which underwent minor surgery this summer after he missed the final 12 games of the last Suns season too.
Once Pietrus' knee recovers and is able to undergo treatment, the deal could still go down in the coming weeks.
"This is just an injured player," McCandless said. "Mike says he will be ready. He's been working out for two weeks. Is he in game shape? No."
