Video: Phoenix Mercury GM Ann Meyers-Drysdale Breaks Down WNBA Draft

Phoenix Mercury General Manager Ann Meyers-Drysdale spoke with us about the team's second round draft pick, Brittany Spears, and the decision to trade this year's third round pick to Connecticut for their third round pick in the 2012 WNBA Draft.

The Mercury have eight players under contact coming into training camp. Those players are Candice Dupree, Penny Taylor, Kara Braxton, DeWanna Bonner, Nakia Sanford, Marie Ferdinand-Harris, Temeka Johnson, and Diana Taurasi.

Guards Ketia Swanier and Taylor Lilley have non-guaranteed contracts with the team as well.

With eleven players allowed on a WNBA roster and 15 on the training camp squad, it will be difficult for Spears to make the team. Meyers-Drysdale certainly thinks she has a chance but said that the number of available veteran free agents makes it difficult for young prospects. You can also expect to see many teams waive players during camp so if there's specific need it can be filled that way.

Arizona forward Ify Ibekwe was drafted by the Seattle Storm with the 24th overall pick. No ASU players were drafted.
