Anaheim Ducks Stop Later Rally From Phoenix Coyotes, 3-2

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) – Cory Perry netted the go-ahead goal with 5:37 remaining to lift Anaheim to a 3-2 win over Phoenix at Honda Center.

Bobby Ryan assisted on each goal while Ryan Getzlaf added a pair of helpers for the Ducks, who finished their first homestand with two wins in three games.

Rookie defenseman Cam Fowler scored his first career goal for the Ducks but left the game with an injury and did not return.

Jonas Hiller made 36 saves to register the win.

Eric Belanger had a goal and an assist and Jason LaBarbera turned away 32 shots in defeat for the Coyotes, who have lost three in a row after opening the year with a win over Boston in Prague.

Ryan won a battle for the puck behind his own net and made an outlet pass to Getzlaf to get the rush started. The Anaheim captain burst into the attack zone along the left side and sent a perfect cross-ice pass to Perry, who redirected it past LaBarbera from the bottom of the right circle for his third of the year.

Hiller kept the game tied in the final 30 seconds as he stoned Lee Stempniak from right in front at the top of the crease.

Both teams had a number of scoring opportunities in the first 20 minutes, including Stempniak, who hit the right post about midway through the period, but were stymied by both netminders.

Anaheim broke the scoreless deadlock 3:41 into the middle stanza.

Getzlaf got to a loose puck in the left corner and, while taking a hit, dished to Fowler at the point. The youngster’s shot through traffic climbed over LaBarbera’s left shoulder into the top corner.

Ryan took a return pass from Perry and then made a backhand pass from behind the net through the crease to the left doorstep where Toni Lydman wristed it past LaBarbera to give the Ducks a 2-0 edge six minutes later.

Phoenix cut the lead in half just 61 seconds into the final session. Shane Doan played a loose puck out of the corner and found Scottie Upshall below the left face-off circle. Upshall’s shot hit the left post, caromed off the back of Hiller and landed over the goal line just ahead of Hiller’s reach.

Phoenix tied the game with 8:41 to play on a turnover in the Ducks zone. Adrian Aucoin’s poke check jarred the puck free where it was picked up in the slot by Doan, who found Belanger moving in on the right side and his one-timer from the bottom of the circle made it past Hiller.
