Arizona Diamondbacks' President and CEO Derrick Hall told reporters that the team is not looking to trade starting pitcher Trevor Bauer.

Arizona Diamondbacks' President and CEO Derrick Hall told Jesse Sanchez on MLB.com that the club will not trade starting pitcher Trevor Bauer.

After dominating the minor leagues with a 12-2 record and a 2.42 ERA, Bauer struggled in his first stint in the majors. Bauer went 1-2 with a 6.06 ERA in four starts and there were reports of Bauer not adjusting his pitching to big league hitting and not communicating with catcher Miguel Montero.

However, Bauer started to mend fences with the organization during the off-season, calling the front office and teammates like veteran J.J. Putz.

Hall said that while this wasn't the best season on the diamond for Bauer, his growth during the off-season was huge for the 2011 first round draft pick. The maturity needed to own up to his mistakes and apologizing to his teammates and staff will be big for his development down the road as he continues his promising young career.

"This season, although it was not good for him at the big league level, it was at the Minor League level. At the big league level, it was probably the most important season, because it was his biggest learning lesson in his life. What we have heard from him lately is very encouraging. He realizes he has made mistakes and he wants to embrace his teammates and hopes that they forgive him. Just really positive signs and we see a lot of maturity from everything he went through."

Arizona Cardinals' cornerback and punt returner Patrick Peterson is trying too hard to make a play says special teams coach Kevin Spencer.

Arizona Cardinals' special teams coach Kevin Spencer thinks cornerback Patrick Peterson is trying to do too much with it when acting as the team's punt returner.

In an interview with Daria Del Colliano of ArizonaSports.com, Spencer says that Peterson is pressing right now to make something happen on special teams, and that is leading to Peterson mishandling the ball and putting it on the ground:

"I think it's just we've got to move forward and again I think [Peterson] is just trying too hard. When have you ever seen a game where he put two balls on the ground? I think he's just trying so desperately to make a play that even he is playing outside of himself."

After a spectacular rookie campaign that saw him average 15.9 yards per return and score four touchdowns, Peterson's numbers have dropped dramatically, averaging just 7.7 yards per return this year.

One big reason is that opposing teams know Peterson's tendencies and can adjust their coverage accordingly to keep him from breaking loose for a big gain. Spencer knows this and is trying to find a way to counter their adjustments to give Peterson the space he needs:

"I know what people are trying to do so what can we do a little bit more effectively, whether it be technique or scheme to try to get a crack to get him going."

The Cardinals are currently on their bye week and will next take on the undefeated Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 18 in Atlanta.

Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely was fined $7,875 for a late hit against the Miami Dolphins.

Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely was fined $7,875 for a late hit in Arizona's Week 4 overtime win against the Miami Dolphins.

Feely was flagged for unnecessary roughness after he hit a Dolphins player after he kicked the ball out of the end zone for a touchback. Feely said that he was just trying to run down the field to defend the kick just like everyone else on the team.

Our Cardinals site Revenge of the Birds has a quote from Feely about why he hit the Dolphins player on the kickoff:

"On a kickoff, I'm allowed to hit him in the back and I did that and the refs talked to me later and said 'it was a touchback, you shouldn't have done that'. I didn't know it was a touchback, I'm trying to get a block. I was just glad they didn't score. Anytime you do that you feel responsible for putting yourself in bad field position."

Feely was able to atone for his penalty, as he kicked the game winning 46 yard field goal with eight and a half minutes left in overtime.
