Arizona State reportedly finds replacement for Larry Porter

After losing Larry Porter to Texas earlier in the week, Todd Graham filled out his staff with a familiar face on Friday.

When Todd Graham was putting together his staff at Arizona State last year, he hired Chris Thomsen to coach running backs. After six weeks on the job, Thomsen left to accept a position at Texas Tech. Now, just over 11 months later Thomsen is back at ASU after being hired to be the running backs coach on Friday, according to a report from CoachingSearch.com.

Thomsen will replace Larry Porter who left to become the running backs coach at Texas earlier in the week. Thomsen spent one season at Texas Tech, moving into the interim head coaching position after Tommy Tuberville departed for Cincinnati. Thomsen was rumored as the next offensive line coach at California, but decided to change course and return to ASU after Porter left for Texas.

While his path back to Tempe may have been a winding one, Thomsen should be a strong addition to Graham's staff. In addition to his time as an assistant at ASU and Texas Tech, Thomsen has also worked as an assistant at Abilene Chisttian and Central Arkansas. He has head coaching experience as well, having been the head coach at Abilene Christian for seven seasons.
