Former Chandler Hamilton offensive lineman Christian Westerman is coming home after spending two seasons at Auburn, as his transfer to Arizona State was made official on Wednesday, according to Doug Haller of AZSports.com.
The 6'4, 298-pound lineman drew interest from several Pac-12 schools (including Arizona and UCLA), but was drawn in t he direction of the Sun Devils' program and the opportunity to be close to home.
Via Scott Bordow of AZSports.com:
"I was homesick," said Westerman, who likely will have to sit out a year per NCAA rules. "I wanted to be around my friends and family."
Picking up Westerman is huge for the Sun Devils. He was ranked as the No. 2 tackle in the country by ESPN coming out of high school.
Westerman will likely have to sit out next season due to NCAA transfer rules, but there is an outside chance that he could receive a penalty-free transfer due to an ongoing investigation of wrongdoings by the Auburn program.
