Arizona St. Sun Devils senior right guard Andrew Sampson missed his third straight game on Saturday but is expected to return this week against the Washington St. Cougars.
Sampson has a right ankle sprain that hasn't healed as fast as the Sun Devils would have liked.
"That's hurt us a lot, him being gone these last few weeks," said head coach Todd Graham. "We could have put him out there last week, but I think it would have been detrimental to him, so we didn't do that."
Sampson's replacement is redshirt freshman Vi Teofilo, who has started in Sampson's place. Sampson's return as a veteran presence to the offensive line will be a welcomed sight for Graham and his team due to the struggles of the offensive line as a whole. Since Sampson's departure from the lineup, the Sun Devils have given up 14 sacks, including a season-high seven to USC in Saturday's loss.
Graham spoke on how difficult it is for offensive lineman to return from ankle injuries due to their need to be able to push off. But Sampson could have some added determination to return for Saturday's game since it will be his last home game in a Sun Devils' uniform.
