NCAA football rankings, Week 7: Arizona State just outside the Coaches Top 25

The Sun Devils are knocking on the door of the Coaches Poll in Week 7.

Ed Szczepanski-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Arizona State Sun Devils received 61 votes, the most of any team that didn't make the top 25, in the Week 7 Coaches Poll. The Sun Devils finished just twelve votes behind the Iowa State Cyclones for the final spot.

ASU has been finding itself on more and more ballots over the last few weeks. They received 22 votes in Week 5, and that grew to 40 in Week 6. A win over the Colorado Buffaloes on Thursday could propel them into the Coaches Poll rankings for the first time this season.

The Sun Devils are off to a hot start, winning four of five and taking their first two conference games. Arizona State was idle on Saturday in order to avoid a short week ahead of Thursday's game.

Four Pac-12 teams make appearances in the top 25. Oregon stays at the second spot, USC moves up three to No. 9, Oregon State is at No. 14, and Stanford rises to No. 17.
