The Arizona State Sun Devils took down the Coppin State Eagles, 68-52, at Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday afternoon. ASU was hardly threatened, as it jumped out to an 11-point lead at halftime, and continued to extend in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Arizona State was led by a near triple-double by guard Jahii Carson. He dropped in 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting with eight rebounds and seven assists. Carson's effort was accompanied by 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting from Jonathan Gilling, including 4-of-9 from three. Gilling also added seven rebounds and four assists.
ASU's defensive effort was the story, as the Sun Devils held Coppin State to just 52 points on 64 possessions. The Eagles posted only a 42 effective field goal percentage and shot just four free throws.
The win moves Arizona State to 11-2 as the non-conference slate comes to an end.
