The Arizona Wildcats got off to a bit of a slow start on Saturday afternoon, but some clutch shooting from behind the arc helped keep the team in the game. The Colorado Buffaloes have done a nice job attacking the rim and are also keeping the UA out of the lane and are forcing them to take outside shots. After one half of play, the Buffaloes lead the Wildcats by a score of 30-28.
The three UA seniors stepped up big time in the first 20 minutes; Kyle Fogg leads all scorers with 10 points, Brendon Lavender hit both of his attempts from behind the arc, and Jesse Perry battled down low for seven points and two rebounds. Nick Johnson continues to shoot poorly and has just three points on six shots.
A good sign for the Wildcats: they turned the ball over just four times in the first half. The bad news: they were out-rebounded by nine by Colorado.
CU was led by freshman Spencer Dinwiddle, who went 3-for-3 from behind the arc for his nine points. Andre Roberson and Carlon Brown both had six points, while Austin Dufault added four and five rebounds.
This game is going to come down to energy down the stretch. Fatigue could definitely become an issue for both sides with the hectic schedule they played this week. Neither team is in serious foul trouble, although Perry and Roberson both have two.
The second half is about to get underway. The game is being aired on CBS.
