Davonte Neal Recruiting: Local Prospect Will Visit Arizona Wildcats, Ohio State, Notre Dame Remain Involved

Rich Rodriguez and his coaching staff got off to a very late start with 2012 athlete Davonte Neal, but the program has now secured a visit from the stud prospect out of Chaparral High School in Scottsdale. Neal, who is listed as an athlete and could play on either side of the ball in college, is a five-star prospect and is ranked eighth in the nation, according to ESPN.

While most believed he would go out of state to continue his football career, Neal will pay Tucson a visit on February 10. Just about every program in the nation has contacted him, although some believe Ohio State is the program to beat. With National Signing Day coming on February 1, it is interesting that Neal will not make a final decision until a few weeks after most in the nation sign.

Here was a snippet from a recent ESPN update:

"We had a home visit with Arizona Wednesday afternoon and it went very well," Neal's father Luke said. "Rich Rod [Rodriguez], Robert Anae and Tony Dews all came together and were really blown away. Robert and I coached together at Rexburg (Idaho) Ricks junior college back in the early 90s and we've been close ever since.

"I always said if Robert was at Arizona, we would give them a look, because I know he would look after Davonte, but I honestly didn't expect much to come from the home visit. Coach Rod was very impressive, and Davonte liked him a lot. He's a good guy, a family guy and a good football coach. He's intense and personable but also has a way of making you feel comfortable around him.

And here is a highlight reel of Davonte in action:

Even if Mr. Neal does not commit to the Wildcats, it still speaks volumes for what Rich Rodriguez and the coaching staff have in mind for recruiting in the future.
