The Arizona Wildcats (11-5, 2-1) host the pretty darn good Oregon State Beavers (11-5, 1-3) on Thursday night at the McKale Center in Tucson. The game tips at 6:30 p.m. Arizona time and will be the first game back from break for the Zona Zoo students.
The Beavers bring a talented roster to the desert, led by guard Jared Cunningham who's averaging 17.6 points per game along with 3.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.9 steals. Wildcats guards Kyle Fogg and/or Nick Johnson will have their hands full with the streaky Beaver.
Cunningham isn't the only threat facing the Wildcats. The Beavers have six player scoring in double-digits are getting solid play from their front line of Joe Burton and Devon Collier. The Wildcats have struggled with big teams this season. Oregon State is coming off 4OT loss to Stanford.
Wildcats blog, AZ Desert Swarm, is worried about this game and is thankful it's being played at home. They fear a "trap".
There are several types of trap games. A trap game can be one where all the variables (match-ups, injury, venue, luck) go in the underdogs' favor. Or, a trap game can be fan-based, where history (McKale Center helps Arizona a lot, Oregon State is generally not good at basketball, etc.) clouds judgment.
The latter is what could happen against the Beavers.
Game time: 6:30 p.m. Arizona Time
