It appears Kaleb Tarczewski, the heralded seven-foot center out of New Hampshire, is close to making a final decision on which school he will attend in 2012.
Zeus, as his teammates and friends call him, was once believed to be a heavy Kansas-lean, but schools such as Arizona, North Carolina and Kentucky entered the picture late and kept Tarczewski from making a final decision. While many rumors have circled the message boards in recent months, the nation's No. 2 ranked center has narrowed his list to Kansas and Arizona.
Tarczewski visited the Jayhawks last weekend for Late Night In The Phog and had a great time, according to recruiting expert Adam Zagoria. Despite it being his fifth visit to Lawrence, the talented big man did not commit and is now preparing for his official visit to Arizona. He unofficially visited Tucson two months ago and came away very impressed.
Many believed Zeus would arrive in Tucson on Friday, but recent reports have indicated he will begin his visit a day early and take in the Arizona football game against UCLA on Thursday night.
While this may be concerning to some UA fans -- hey, the football team isn't exactly the pride of the school right now -- the crowd should be rowdy seeing as Arizona can actually beat UCLA and it will be the first game without Mike Stoops on the sidelines.
Tarczewski is expected to remain in town throughout the weekend, with the main event being Arizona's Red-Blue Game on Saturday afternoon. 11,000 tickets have already been sold for the event and former Wildcat greats such as Jason Terry, Channing Frye and Derrick Williams will all be in attendance.
Anyone who has followed this recruitment closely knows making predictions seems foolish at this point, but ask yourself this: Tarczewski has been recruited by Bill Self for years and just visited Lawrence for the fifth time without committing. He gave Sean Miller and the Wildcats his final official visit and is arriving early to check out a pretty meaningless football game. Which school appears to have all the momentum at this point?
