Davonte Neal Sets Announcement Date, Finalists Include Arizona, Notre Dame

Davonte Neal, the nation's top-football prospect yet to sign, has set an announcement date of February 21. The decision will be made public at 9:30 a.m. that morning from the elementary school he attended as a child. Neal projects to be either a wide receiver or defensive back in college and is a four-star athlete according to Rivals.com.

The four final schools, according to numerous reports: Arizona, Arkansas, North Carolina and Notre Dame. Here is a snippet from a recent update that Brian Snow of Scout provided.

Chaparral High (Scottsdale, Ariz.) four-star athlete Davonte' Neal has family close to Chapel Hill, N.C., is being recruited to play on both sides of the ball and loves the education North Carolina offers.

Arkansas will allow him to begin work on his major as a freshman, Arizona offers familiarity and the chance to play several roles and Notre Dame has remained high on his list because of its academic and athletic mix, and the way the staff has recruited him.

For as exciting as it would be for Rich Rodriguez to land the in-state prospect, the writing is on the wall that he will go elsewhere. Some in his family may be pushing for the Wildcats, but Neal has made it known he wants to play for a top-tier program and that is something both Notre Dame and Arkansas provide. And while he has some family in Arizona, he is very close with those in North Carolina and that could play a big factor in his recruitment, as well.

Nothing has been made official at this point, although it appears the race to land Davonte Neal is finally nearing an end.
