National Signing Day 2012: Local Recruit Zach Hoffpauir Chooses Stanford Over Cal, ASU

The big day for college recruiting continues as prep athletes across the nation sign their letters of intent for college football. A local kid, 3-star defensive back Zach Hoffpauir, has made his decision. He will play for the Stanford Cardinal, according to a tweet by the Arizona Republic's Doug Haller.

Hoffpauir had committed earlier in the season to Cal, but then opened up his list of schools recently. He was deciding between Cal, Stanford and Arizona State.

Scouts.com has this bio about him:

One of AZ's top playmakers. Tough as nails, explosive tackler, and has great ball skills. Is a player that you want on your team. Is a great student (well above 3.0 GPA). Tweener in that, doesn't have prototypical measurables of a safety or OLB. But the bottomline is, he can play football. Also a national baseball prospect.

There was the small chance that Arizona State could have landed him, and that would have shown once again how well new head coach Todd Graham is doing with his in-state recruiting. ASU's landing of D.J. Foster opened things up.

We wish him well in the Pac-12 North.
