The Arizona St. Sun Devils traveled to Southern California on Saturday night, where they faced off against the UCLA Bruins at the Honda Center in Anaheim in Pac-12 play. For much of the first half, it looked like the Sun Devils might stun the bruins, who came into the game favored by 11 points. At the end of the night, however, the Bruins had done more than cover the spread as they picked up the 75-58 victory.
With the win, UCLA improves to 2-1 in Pac-12 play, while ASU falls to 1-2 within the conference, with an overall record of 5-10.
The Sun Devils opened up a big lead in the first half and seemed to be padding it. Within the last few minutes of the half, however, the Bruins slowly and steadily climbed back into it, going ahead on a layup and one by Joshua Smith. By the time halftime arrived, the Burins led 33-30. It was a lead they would not surrender.
In the second half, the Bruins stormed out of the gate by opening up a huge lead, at one point leading by 20 points. In all, they outscored the Sun Devils in the second half 42-28.
Jonathan Gilling led all ASU scorers with 17 points.
