ASU Closing In On June Jones For Head Coaching Job, According To Multiple Reports

The search for Dennis Erickson's replacement as the head football coach of the Arizona State University Sun Devils continues to march along. After the team apparently lost out on its first choice, Houston's Kevin Sumlin, the focus shifted to SMU's June Jones according to multiple reports.

On Saturday it was reported that ASU was meeting with Jones about the job and on Sunday there's further evidence that Jones will be the main. Of course, these are only reports and nothing is official. KTAR radio's Paul Calvisi was first on Twitter followed quickly by Bruce Feldman of CBS. Both essentially are reporting the same thing:

Twitter / @PaulCalvisi: ASU Update:.
ASU Update: Sources tell me that June Jones is "definite front-runner." In fact, do "not be surprised if announced after bowl selection.."

Twitter / @BFeldmanCBS:
Just heard from a source that SMU's June Jones has emerged as a leader for the vacant ASU job.

If early reaction via Twitter and other chatter is any indication, Sun Devils fans do not seem impressed with Jones being the leading candidate for the job. Jones has a 23-28 record after four seasons at Southern Methodist University. He was 76-41 in nine seasons as the head coach at Hawaii before that.
