Herb Sendek: ASU Is A 'Place (Where) I Want To Be'

Arizona State men's basketball will be guided by coach Herb Sendek another two years after the school announced a contract extension for the 48-year-old from Pittsburgh who was hired before the 2006-2007 season.

Sendek said he's happy at ASU, where he's guided the Sun Devils to three winning seasons sandwiched between two losing campaigns, one in his first season and the other last season. ASU is off to a rough start at 3-5 to the 2011-2012 campaign.

"This is a place (where) I want to be, this is a place (where I want to coach hopefully for the rest of my career," Sendek said Friday.

He looked back on his career at ASU to date and where the team is now.

↵

"Right now, for reasons that you guys are well aware of, we're in a challenging spot. We're going to continue to work to get better, but I think if you peak over the horizon with some of the guys that we have sitting out, with our recruiting class coming, with this team not having a senior on the roster, there's reason for great hope and excitement."

Sendek pledged to keep the team "battling."

"The most resilient people are young people," Sendek said. "They have a wonderful gift of staying in the moment. The older we get, the more we lose that."
