Great Alaska Shootout: St. John's Overpowers ASU In Second Half, Win 67-58

Anchorage, AK (Sports Network) – Justin Brownlee scored a team-best 20 points, leading four players in double figures, as the St. John’s Red Storm captured a 67-58 win over the Arizona State Sun Devils in the championship game of the Great Alaska Shootout at Sullivan Arena.

Dwight Hardy added 14 points for the Red Storm (4-1), although he shot just 4- of-14 from the floor on the night. Paris Horne tacked on 11 points and Malik Stith 10 off the bench.

The Sun Devils (3-2) were paced by Ty Abbott who tallied a game-high 22 points on 6-of-12 shooting behind the three-point line. Trent Lockett contributed 10 points and seven rebounds in the setback as well.

Arizona State ran out to an early 9-2 lead in the first half, the Sun Devils eventually taking a 30-20 advantage at the break as the Red Storm shot only 7- of-27 from the floor in the period.

The second half saw a different St. John’s squad as they made good on a sizzling 64 percent from the field and 5-of-11 behind the three-point line to surge ahead and claim the nine-point victory.

ASU was outscored at the free-throw line 16-9 and suffered a total of 17 turnovers in the matchup.
