With six games left in the season, the Arizona Diamondbacks' playoff hopes are essentially dead.

Sitting six games back in the wild card race -- and with six games left in the season -- the Arizona Diamondbacks' hopes of earning a berth in the postseason technically still exist but are essentially extinct.

But the Diamondbacks still have some baseball left to play and they start their penultimate series of the season Friday night with a game against the Chicago Cubs at Chase Field in Phoenix, Ariz.

The Diamondbacks are coming off a 2-1 series loss to the San Francisco Giants, while the Cubs are riding a five-game losing streak and have lost nine of their last 10.
