Diamondbacks Claim Cody Ransom Off Waivers

Cody Ransom will be returning to the Arizona Diamondbacks after the team claimed the utility infielder off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers Friday, according to the D-backs Twitter account.

Ransom will be rejoining the D-backs once rosters expand Saturday, according to the team. The 36-year-old Ransom hit .269/.345/.577 in 58 plate appearances with Arizona earlier this season before the Milwaukee claimed him off the waivers. As a Brewer though, Ransom hit an uninspiring .196/.293/.345 line in 194 plate appearances, striking out 41% of his at-bats.

Still, Ransom has shown the ability to hit for power for Arizona in the past, stroking five home runs in just 85 at bats as a reserve over the past two seasons in a D-backs uniform. Ransom can also play four infield positions and should see the occasional start down the stretch at third base and shortstop.
