The Arizona Diamondbacks are still in the process of determining whether they'll be buyers or sellers in the coming weeks as the July 31 trade deadline approaches. The D-backs are 44-47 on the season, but they remain just 6.5 games back of the Giants in the National League West.
Most trade talks surrounding the club have involved Justin Upton, but a recent report from FOX Sports suggests Stephen Drew is one of the hotter players on the market.
It's still unclear whether the Diamondbacks will trade right fielder Justin Upton. But shortstop Stephen Drew appears to be generating enough attention to get moved.
The Pirates, Red Sox and Tigers are among the teams interested in Drew, according to major-league sources.
Drew has struggled since returning last month from a horrific ankle injury, although he appears to slowly be regaining his form both at the plate and in the field. Despite these improvements, it appears unlikely the D-backs will pick up his mutual option for $10 million next year, nor will any team that acquires him in a trade. This can only hurt Drew's trade value, which will hurt general manager Kevin Towers' ability to get more than a fringe prospect or two for his shortstop.
