The third-overall pick of the 2011 draft will be making his major league debut for the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday, manager Kirk Gibson confirmed Tuesday. "Yes he is," he told Arizona Sports 620's Burns and Gambo Tuesday. "Trevor Bauer's going to start. He'll try to get in here [Wednesday] sometime, and then he'll be toeing the rubber for us on Thursday night."
Bauer will replace an injured Joe Saunders, who went to the DL with a strained left elbow on Saturday. The speculation began that Bauer would be called up after he was pulled from his last start after only 50 pitches. He's 11-1 with a 2.23 ERA and 116 strikeouts this year combined at both Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Reno.
