Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo has had a disappointing season this far, having lost four games already. However, he entered Friday night's contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks having had loads of success against them. Before Friday, he was 3-0 with an ERA of around 1.50 at Chase Field.
That dominance continued as he pitched seven and one/third innings, allowing only a solo home run to Jason Kubel.
Ian Kennedy, who started for the D-backs, gave up four runs and could not get through the sixth inning. In the end, Milwaukee came away with a 7-1 win.
Rickie Weeks started the scoring for the Brewers, hitting his fifth homer of the year with two outs in the second inning. They added three more runs in the fourth when Ryan Braun homered to drive in two and Cesar Izturis singled to drive in Aramis Ramirez.
Kubel's homer in the bottom of the inning pulled the D-backs to within three runs, but that was it.
Milwaukee added two in the eighth off Josh Collmenter and another run in the ninth off Craig Breslow.
Arizona threatened in the eighth inning, loading the bases with one out, but the inning was ended when Ryan Roberts grounded into a double play to end the inning.
The two teams battle again Saturday night on MLB Network with a pair of pitchers having a great season so far -- Zack Greinke and Wade Miley -- at 7:10 PM Arizona time.
