Arizona Diamondbacks Player/Pitcher Of The Week: Two Easy Choices

Over the last week, the play of the Arizona Diamondbacks was pretty even. It led to a 3-3 record. However, when it comes to picking a position player an a pitcher that played better than the rest, the choice is easy. Last week we recognized Gerardo Parra as the team player of the week and Joe Saunders as the team pitcher of the week.

This week, it is outfielder Jason Kubel who is the player of the week and lefty pitcher Wade Miley who earned the title of pitcher of the week.

Kubel absolutely tore the cover off the ball this past week. In 25 at bats, he hit .480 (12 hits), including three doubles, two homers and seven RBI. He even has been showing off an underrated outfield arm in the field. With the way he has been hitting, it makes it clear why the team thought he would be a good addition to the team.

Other players considered were Miguel Montero, Aaron Hill and Gerardo Parra.

For pitcher of the week, Miley was an easy choice. He started twice and did not allow an earned run in 12 and a third innings. He struck out 13 and allowed three hits. He picked up the win in both and started both games mowing down hitters and not allowing them to reach base. So his glowing 2-0 record and 0.00 ERA of the week earn him this recognition.

Joe Saunders deserved the award as well, but he was bested by Miley because it was over two starts. Saunders threw a complete game three-hit shutout on Friday.
