Arizona Diamondbacks Players Balance Caring About Winning And Caring Too Much

In this early season, the Arizona have experienced a little bit of adversity. Having had injuries to key players and now three straight losses, things are a little difficult for the players, especially coming off such a successful 2011 campaign and with heightened expectations this season.

Manager Kirk Gibson noted how there is a fine line that has to be balanced when it comes to emotions.

"It's a very good charactertistic of our team but it works against us at times," explained Gibson in his pregame press conference on Friday. "We have guys that care so much."

He named Ryan Roberts and Willie Bloomquist in particular. Gibby said "they grind so hard and have a hard time leaving the result alone."

↵

After Bloomquist was taken out Wednesday night in a double switch, he went into the clubhouse, where he was found "getting rid of some frustration" and "exercising some negative feelings."

↵

Gibson was quick to note that it potentially can work against the players and the team. "It's good to feel that way," he explained. "But then you can't let it take you in the wrong direction."

↵

On a positive note, Gibson did say that things are on the right side of emotions. "Guys have a good attitude. They're coming and you can tell they are saying 'we have a game tonight.'"

↵

They certainly do, and hopefully they can get back on the comfortable side of things with winning.
