Ian Kennedy Named Diamondbacks Opening Day Starter -- Duh!

Apparently when Kirk Gibson announced that Ian Kennedy was going to be in all likelihood the team's starting pitcher on Opening Day, people thought it was big news. I mean, it is news, but it should be no surprise really.

↵

Kennedy was the clear ace in 2011. He was 21-4 with a 2.88 ERA. He was a Cy Young Award candidate.

↵

Does anything else need to be said?

↵

Gibson said he was the guy so to get that question out of the way, but he didn't say it was set in stone, which is what he had to do to keep the other pitchers hungry. If Kennedy is hurt, he won't start on Day 1. Also, if he throws badly in the spring, Gibby also reserved the right to change things.

↵

So really he didn't say anything at all.

↵

But the real point of the matter is, why wouldn't he start Opening Day? He certainly has deserved it.
