Aiming to bolster their pitching staff, the Arizona Diamondbacks closed out the week by signing three pitchers for the 2013 season and beyond, including veteran Nelson Figueroa.
Figueroa, who spent the better part of 2012 in the New York Yankees farm system before the Boston Red Sox acquired him for their Triple-A club, signed as a free agent. In 65 career starts and 145 appearances, all with National League teams, Figueroa has compiled a 20-35 record with a 4.55 ERA.
The Diamondbacks also acquired minor league starter Alexis Lara, who worked his way from lower-A ball to Triple-A in the San Diego Padres organization in 2012. The reliever appeared in 26 games on four different Padres teams, posting a combined 4.31 ERA.
Warner Madrigal will also join the Diamondbacks organization after not appearing in a major or minor league game in 2012. He last pitched with the Yankees Double-A Trenton Thunder after pitching two seasons with the Texas Rangers in 2008 and 2009, where he appeared in 44 games and had a 6.10 ERA.
