Justin Upton trade rumors: Braves reportedly turned down 3-team deal

The Atlanta Braves reported turned down a deal over the weekend that would have sent the Diamondbacks' Justin Upton to the Texas Rangers. The Diamondbacks would have received shortstop Andrelton Simmons from the Braves, and the Rangers would have sent third base prospect Mike Olt to Atlanta.

The Braves were brought in by Texas to facilitate their pursuit of Upton because they're reluctant to trade starting shortstop Elvis Andrus or their top prospect, shortstop Jurickson Profar. Simmons made his rookie debut in 2012, hitting .289 with three home runs and 19 RBIs in 49 games on top of playing exception defense.

The Diamondbacks are shopping Upton, despite his undeniable talent, for a number of reasons. He's owed nearly $40 million over the next three years, and the organization has had questions about his maturity and ability to lead a team. Also, the potential return a player like Upton could get them may allow them to fix several roster issues at once.
