Arizona Diamondbacks Open World Series Anniversary Home Stand, Padres Play Patsy

The Arizona Diamondbacks open a four-game series against the Padres. But really, the big fun is the 10-year anniversary events celebrating the 2011 World Series Championship team.

While you were getting ready for the NFL season to start, the Arizona Diamondbacks quietly took care of business in Colorado. The Snakes took two-of-three from the Rockies and would have swept were it not for a VERY rare eighth inning meltdown from the bullpen.

The Diamondbacks are still up seven in the NL West over the Giants and are just half-a-game behind the Atlanta Braves and only two games behind the Brewers for the second-best record in the National League. In other words, not only will the D-backs be playing playoff baseball, but they could have home field advantage as well.

Will Arizona fans show up for the playoffs in big numbers? One would hope.

In the mean time, the Diamondbacks have a well-timed event planned for this weekend to get the postseason juices flowing. While the Padres will nominally be in town for a four-game series, the real fun is the 10-year anniversary celebration of the 2011 World Series Champion Diamondbacks.

Here's a summary of the weekend's fun events.

Here's your pitching probables for the series:

  • Thursday (6:40 p.m.): Ian Kennedy (18-4, 2.96) vs. Cory Luebke (5-8, 3.29)
  • Friday (6:40 p.m.): Daniel Hudson (15-9, 3.53) vs. Mat Latos (7-13, 3.77)
  • Saturday (5:10 p.m.): Wade Miley (3-1, 3.52) vs. Tim Stauffer (8-12, 3.83)
  • Sunday (1:10 p.m.): Josh Collmenter (9-8, 3.10) vs. Wade LeBlanc (2-5, 5.33)

Fox Sports Arizona will have the great TV broadcast for the weekend fun. AZ Snake Pit has the live game thread on the daily.
