Derek Jeter And Alex Rodriguez Scratched From 2011 MLB All-Star Game

Derek Jeter might be just a few hits about from 3,000 on his career but based on the season he's had he shouldn't ever have been voted in as a starter on the 2011 MLB All-Star team. Jeter, recently back from the disabled list, has rectified that situation by pulling himself from the game. Jeter's New York Yankee teammate Alex Rodriguez is also scratched due to a knee problem.

Rodriguez is out of the line for Friday's Yankee game versus Tampa Bay and is scheduled to have an MRI on his knee. Jeter will likely use the time to continue to rest his calf which put him on the DL.

Yankee closer Mariano Rivera also pulled himself from the 2011 MLB All-Star Game with arm soreness.

"I'm not gonna go because I want to make sure I'm 100 percent," Rivera told reporters. "The three days will be good to rest."

The lack of the Yankee's three biggest stars will be a blow to their fans in Arizona who wanted to see them play and is also a sign of the end of this Yankee era.
