The Arizona Diamondbacks are <gasp> playing good baseball. Actually, 18-5 over their last 23 games is better than good, it's grrrrrrate! and the fans are starting to shake off the bad feelings from last summer and take notice.
↵Attendance at the park hasn't yet started to show noticeable increases but it's a bit early for that yet. Saturday (26,199) and Sunday (23,129) were on par with other weekend games but there's really not a good comparison to a team like the Nationals who have no local fan base. The Reds on opening weekend, Giants, Cubs, and even the Twins are the only other weekend series there's reasons for all those teams to draw inflated numbers.
↵One area you can point to is TV ratings. According to Fox Sports Arizona, Sunday's day game versus the Nationals did pretty, pretty well on the old telly.
↵↵↵Its peak rating was a season high 6.8/14 share. That rating means 122,576 Phoenix households were watching the game at that time. During the 4:00-5:00 pm hour, the telecast averaged a 6.6/13 share = an average of 118,971 Phoenix households were tuned in during that time frame. Only 2 other programs had higher peak numbers/higher hour rating average yesterday in Phoenix - NBA Finals & 60 Minutes (these programs aired at night)
↵
The D-backs are averaging a 3.0 rating this season (54,078 Phoenix households) with the previous high rating (5.1, 91,932 households) coming on May 30 against the Marlins on May 30. The Phoenix Suns averaged a 3.8 rating this past season.
↵Not bad.
↵And just because it's totally awesome...
