Diamondbacks Offense Deflated By Verlander, Detroit 6-0

The Arizona Diamondbacks' impressive road winning streak came to an abrupt end on Saturday as Justin Verlander shut down the Arizona offense. Detroit was able to score six runs off of Josh Collmenter, and the Tigers won 6-0.

Scrounging up only five hits on the night, the Diamondbacks offense were completely at a loss with how to deal with Verlander. Chris Young and Gerardo Parra were the sole highlights offensively, both getting two hits.

Detroit's Alex Avila hit a big three-run homer off of Collmenter, and had four RBI total on the day. Victor Martinez and Jhonny Peralta added RBI for the Tigers, who evened the series at 1 win apiece.

Verlander had a career-high 14 strikeouts, and earned his tenth victory of the season. At 10-3 with a 2.83 ERA, Verlander has to be under consideration for the AL's starting pitcher on July 12 in Phoenix.

Tomorrow's game features a battle between Arizona's Joe Saunders and Detroit's Brad Penny. For more on the Diamondbacks, head on over to AZ Snake Pit.
