Ian Kennedy Takes Ball For Diamondbacks With Chance To Pass Rockies

The Arizona Diamondbacks recovered from a 12-4 beat down in the first game of Tuesday's to take the second game behind a strong eight inning performance from Joe Saunders. The D-backs at 24-24 are just a half-game back behind the Rockies 24-23.

With a win on Wednesday, the Snakes could take sole possession of second place in the NL West. Not bad for a team most predicted would win around 70 games again. Is this team for real? It's way too soon to say but for the time being, winning is winning and nine of the last 11 is a legit streak.

To make matters just a bit more promising, the D-backs have their ace (who's laughing now) on the mound. Ian Kennedy is a solid 5-1 with an ERA that's been declining steadily since giving up nine runs to the Cardinals in this third start of the season.

The Rockies will go with Jason Hammel (3-3, 3.59 ERA) who's been pitching pretty well himself.

Wednesday's game starts at 5:40 p.m. on Fox Sports Arizona with the live game thread at AZ Snake Pit.

SnakeSounds: 5/24 vs. Rockies - AZ Snake Pit
I think most of us would have settled for a split of today's double-header, and after the pasting taken by the bullpen in the opener, we really needed Saunders to deliver in the night-cap. That he did, both on the mound and charging to cover home-plate and keep Arizona in the lead, a play which seems certain to be a nominee for the 'Pitties come season-end.

Diamondbacks Farm Round-Up: May 24th - AZ Snake Pit

I could get used to this.  Actually watching the D-backs on TV and being able to focus my intarwebz attention on the minors.  Good times.  Just two teams in action tonight in the minors, with Mobile and Visalia having days off.  .500 night tonight, but there were plenty of performances to be happy about at both Reno and South Bend, so there's enough to talk about tonight.
