The Diamondbacks have reportedly signed veteran lefty reliever Ron Mahay to a minor league deal, according to Nick Piecoro.
Dbacks have agreed to sign lefty reliever Ron Mahay to minor league deal. He’ll go to extended for a couple days, then probably Reno.
Mahay is a 14-year MLB veteran, and has compiled a 3.83 ERA in 514 career appearances. If he makes it up to the major league club, he figures to be nothing more than a lefty specialist, which has become an issue recently based on how poorly Joe Paterson (the team's current lefty specialist) is performing.
Mahay signing seems to put Joe Paterson on notice. He’s made three appearances with 1st man reaching twice. Not good for lefty specialist.
Mahay made 41 appearances for the Minnesota Twins last year and recorded a pretty solid 3.44 ERA.
