The first game of the Diamondbacks versus Cubs went slightly better than planned. A solid two-runs allowed outing from fourth starter, Barry Enright combined with 11 runs against the Cubs is a nice start to things. Lets also not discount the hangover effect of the Cubs having to use their bullpen for 8.2 innings behind the one out their starter produced.
Armando Galarraga (3-1, 6.00 ERA) will take the mound today against Carlos Zambrano (2-1, 5.28 ERA). Galarraga, like every other starter in the D-backs rotation, has had some very good outings and some very bad ones. His last was a bad one. Armando gave up six runs in three innings against the Mets although four were unearned due to an error in the field.
Here's a bit of good news (we think):
Aaron Heilman, who has been out of action since April 14 because of tendinitis in his right shoulder, threw another bullpen session Thursday and the reliever could be close to returning to action. Heilman said that he expects to face hitters in a simulated game at Chase Field on Sunday and then he should be ready to be activated.
Friday's game is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. on Fox Sports Arizona with the live game thread at AZ Snake Pit.
