Diamondbacks Pen Can't Hold Lead In Loss To Mets, 4-1

The Arizona Diamondbacks are going to be unhappy with this game. Starter Joe Saunders gives a solid six innings before getting pulled after walking a man in the seventh with a 1-0 lead. Skipper Kirk Gibson elects to go with the inconsistent Esmerling Vasquez out of the pen and pays the price for the decision.

Vasquez  takes the loss as he allowed Saunders' runner to score along with ASU product Ike Davis off Davis' home run. Juan Gutierrez didn't fair much better as he allowed a couple of runs thanks to an error on an easy come-backer, a walk and two hits allowed.

The score will tell you all you need to know about the Diamondbacks offense. They managed to get five hits of Mike Pelfrey over seven innings. Justin Upton drove in the only D-backs' run off a bloop double that Carlos Beltran misplayed on a sliding catch.

The D-backs and Mets are back at it on Saturday with an 10:10 a.m. AZT start. Barry Enright will face Dillon Gee.
