The Arizona Diamondbacks made a pair of moves today involving the Triple A Reno Aces, bringing up right-handed pitcher Esmerling Vasquez and sending down right-handed pitcher Kam Mickolio.
Mickolio, a middle reliever with the Diamondbacks that acquired in the Mark Reynolds’ trade, has had two pretty good outings and two pretty bad outings with Arizona so far this season. On April 2 and April 10, the 26-year-old combined to pitch 3.0 innings while giving up just two hits and striking out three batter. In Mickolio’s other two outings — most recently last night against the St. Louis Cardinals — he’s pitched 2.0 innings and given up five runs on six hits.
Vasquez is no stranger to the Diamondbacks as the 27-year-old has been optioned and recalled numerous times. In his only appearance in Reno this season, he pitched one scoreless inning while striking out one in an April 11 game at Colorado Springs. In his D-Backs career, Vasquez has a 4.81 ERA over the course of 110 games.
