Diamondbacks Overpower Carpenter, Cardinals 13-8

These are games that the Arizona Diamondbacks should lose, right?

With St. Louis Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter throwing tonight, Arizona countered with Armando Galarraga. What happened tonight was beyond anyone's expectation.

The Diamondbacks tagged Carpenter for eight earned runs over four innings en route to a 13-8 blowout win at Chase Field on Tuesday night. Justin Upton, Chris Young and Juan Miranda all hit home runs on the evening, allowing the Diamondbacks to even their record at 5-5.

Galarraga gave up five earned runs in five innings, getting his second Arizona victory on the young season. Kam Mickolio gave up three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning. After that, the Diamondbacks bullpen shut it down.

Joe Paterson, David Hernandez and J.J. Putz combined for 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball to allow the home team to come out victorious.

The Diamondbacks offense is clicking on all cylinders right now; seven of the eight position players in the starting lineup had an average over .300 by the end of the night.

With the win, Arizona moved within 2.5 games back of Colorado, who holds the division lead with a 7-2 record.
