After spending multiple years with the Arizona Diamondbacks, including a three month stint as the team's interim general manager, Jerry Dipoto has agreed to become the new GM for the Los Angeles Angels. The move was reported earlier on Friday and will be made official on Saturday, October 29.
↵Dipoto took over control of the D-backs during a rough stretch and the organization was facing an identity crisis in July of 2010. And while he made two trades that were unpopular with the fan base -- Dan Haren to the Angels (!) and Edwin Jackson to the White Sox -- they both were highly beneficial with Daniel Hudson, Joe Saunders and various prospects coming to Arizona.
↵Where would Arizona have been without Hudson and Saunders in 2011? They would not have even sniffed a playoff spot, let alone a division title. Dipoto brought both of those players to the organization and now has Haren at his disposal in Los Angeles. That's a win-win situation for him.
↵Best of luck to Jerry as he attempts to bring the Angels back to relevance in the AL West.
