Arizona Cardinals' First Depth Chart Offers Little Surprise, Should Be Similar To Start Season

Now that The Cardinals have a few practices in the books up in Flagstaff, they have decided to release their first depth chart. Now, none of this is completely set in stone and could easily still shift with injuries and players outperforming one another.

But by the time September 9th rolls around and the Seattle Seahawks are ready to visit the desert, it is unlikely that things are going to look much different.

Kevin Kolb is listed as the primary and starting quarterback as of right now. I expected him to win the job all along, and it still could change, but I am not so sure that it will. Reports indicate that John Skelton has been wildly inaccurate during his first week of camp and that the consistency just isn't there.

At wide receiver, rookie Michael Floyd is listed behind both Andre Roberts and Early Doucet (and Larry Fitzgerald, too, but that goes without saying). Again, this is something that could have been predicted for the first depth chart and will likely be that way even once the 2012 season opener is here. Coach Ken Whisenhunt has never been a fan of starting rookies unless he has to so look for Floyd to come off the bench for a while.

Another position that is up for battle is at the right tackle spot. Jeremy Bridges is currently the leader, but that is a spot that remains quite fluid. Rookie Bobby Massie could easily take that starting job, but again, he is a rookie.

The defense looks similar to last year as well. Dan Williams has moved back into the starting role at nose tackle and Paris Lenon still trumps Stewart Bradley on the list. Many expected Bradley to have won that job over the aging veteran in Lenon by now, but he just hasn't latched on.

The only surprise on defense might be that William Gay is listed as a starting cornerback across from Patrick Peterson. Greg Toler, A.J. Jefferson and even newcomer Jamell Fleming might have something to say about that. I predicted Toler would have that spot locked up by week one, but only time will tell.
